Poll: how long until your child left their glasses on reliably?

Quick poll for all you parents whose children have had their glasses long enough that you’re no longer on the edge of your seat all day long, ready to pick up flung glasses, and put them back on their faces.  So how long did it take your child to get used to their glasses, so that they’d leave them on reliably for at least a few hours at a time?

Feel free to vote more than once if you have more than one child in glasses.

  1. I think it depends on the age and how badly the glasses are needed. Much to my surprise, my 17 month old accepted his glasses almost immediately. I think he was old enough to realize he could see better with them on. Certainly every child is different though…

  2. This is interesting! It definitely depends on the age and the need. Nolan took to them quickly because he was 3 1/2 when he first wore them. He has amblyopia, so his vision in one eye is very poor. The other eye only has astigmatism (and is slightly farsighted), so he favors that eye. He took to his glasses almost immediately – I chose “within a week” because we did have a few times where he’d just take them off and leave them on the table!

  3. Sunshine was 2.5 years old and it took a FULL YEAR before she would wear her glasses (and she desperately needs them – the glasses are a high prescription and only correct her vision to 20/100). All I can say is keep it up even if the child doesn’t seem to be getting it. One day Sunshine just decided to wear her glasses and she wears them all the time now – and asks for them if we don’t get them on her quickly enough. Go figure!

  4. My Daughter was 2.5 when she started wearing glasses. She was very mature for her age and is now 4, but we never had an adjustment time. They went on and stayed on without a hitch. I attribute this to the fact they must help her see!

  6. My son was 10 months old when he started wearing glasses. His glasses have always been high prescription. plus 5.50 in one eye and plus 5.25 in the other. We bought the glasses with the flexible part that bends around the eye. I put them on him when he woke up in the morning and I would take them off after he fell asleep for naps and at night time. Never had a problem with him taking them off.
