Your stories – Jillian

This story was sent in by Dawn.  – Ann Z My Jillian had surgery recently at 20 months.  We didn’t discover her eye problems until she was about 13 months old or so.  I saw her eyes turn in when drinking but they always corrected.  I think I got used to them being off center. Continue reading “Your stories – Jillian”

Your stories – Anna’s story

This story was sent in by Christina.  -Ann Z When I found out my daughter, Anna, needed glasses this past December I stumbled onto this blog.  Since then I’ve found it to be a great source of both information and support. And because of this I thought I would share her story.  Anna’s story isContinue reading “Your stories – Anna’s story”

reader request – growing out of farsightedness

This comes from a post on the little four eyes facebook group.  -Ann Z I am interested in hearing about stories of success..or even progress, on babies who grew out of their significant farsightedness & do not have to wear glasses anymore…I know it happens, but I don’t hear much about it. I think itContinue reading “reader request – growing out of farsightedness”

vision acuity simulator

This comes via Bright Eyes News (where I get almost all my vision-related news): an online vision acuity simulator – you can enter a prescription and see a simulation of what a vision chart would look like to someone with that prescription who isn’t wearing glasses.  [Updated 3/1/2009:   As Annie notes in the comments,Continue reading “vision acuity simulator”

Introducing Chelsea

I ran across Chelsea’s blog, Roots and Rings, this weekend (apologies for not posting earlier, I later got hit by a nasty trojan requiring the reformatting of my laptop – the two incidents are completely unrelated, I promise), and I was instantly hooked.  Chelsea is not just a good writer who is fun to read,Continue reading “Introducing Chelsea”

Question: looking over the top of the frames

This question is from a comment by Anna, looking for thoughts or suggestions.  Remember, today is the last day for comment for sight – leave a comment today and not only will you help out a fellow parent, but I’ll donate $1 to Unite for Sight for every comment left -Ann Z. Does anyone elseContinue reading “Question: looking over the top of the frames”

The Patch

Today was McKenna’s followup from getting her glasses. Dr. Glaser says that he does see a slight improvement and also says that the fact that her right eye occassionally crosses in is a good thing. That since her right eye crosses in, her left eye gets used. He does though want us to patch herContinue reading “The Patch”

Your stories – excerpts from a journal about starting with glasses

These are exerpts from Sue’s blog about her daughter Mia’s first few weeks with glasses.  Mia and her twin sister, Cate are 2 1/2 years old.  Cate does not need glasses, but Mia does. – Ann Z Oct. 27, 2008 – Update on Mia’s eyes I took Mia to the eye doctor today.   She wasContinue reading “Your stories – excerpts from a journal about starting with glasses”

Our first Eye appointment- Eek!

I am so happy that I found this site! I need to vent. My daughter’s pediatrician first noticed a crossed eye at her 9 month check up. But, she only saw it once and thought maybe it was pseudo strabismus. Of course then I started to notice it more and more-then at her 12 monthContinue reading “Our first Eye appointment- Eek!”

Your stories – Jesse (amblyopia and hyperopia)

This post comes from Jomama at You Can’t Go Back Again.  Her son Jesse is the newest addition to our photo gallery page, and wears glasses for amblyopia and hyperopia (farsightedness).  This story of Jesse’s diagnosis is copied with permission from this post at You Can’t Go Back Again.  -Ann Z Hey there, Four Eyes!Continue reading “Your stories – Jesse (amblyopia and hyperopia)”

surgery redux

I wanted to write up a post on the surgery – mostly writing out things that I had wanted to know before the surgery, just in case someone else is facing the prospect and is wondering what’s in store. Obviously, the surgery experience will differ for everyone, but there are certain to be commonalities.  ApologiesContinue reading “surgery redux”

seeing through their eyes

I wanted to point everyone to this post by MotherhoodandPotatoes on her blog – she’s the mom of C (scroll down near the bottom of the gallery for C’s picture) and a frequent commenter.  She writes about having her optometrist put lenses over her eyes to simulate C’s farsighted prescription.  I love the idea ofContinue reading “seeing through their eyes”

Why Can’t We All Just Get ALONG???!

Many moons ago, (or so it seems!) in September of 2007, I had an appointment for my son Braden to get his eyes checked. Although my pediatrician insisted that Braden’s eyes were NOT turning, my gut told me differently. I made an appointment with an eye doctor on my own. Sure enough, Braden’s eyes didContinue reading “Why Can’t We All Just Get ALONG???!”

how did they know she needed glasses? Part II

We were reassured after the first eye appointment, and didn’t really worry about it until around her first birthday when we noticed her eyes crossing a lot more again – specifically, it seemed that her right eye was turning in. This time we sent digital photos to the ophthalmologist and based on the pictures, sheContinue reading “how did they know she needed glasses? Part II”

how did they even know she needed glasses?

Probably the most frequently asked question I get is how we knew that Zoe needed glasses. And fair enough. Zoe’s not a big talker yet, it’s not like she could read off letters on a vision chart or anything like that. Around nine months, we noticed that Zoe’s eyes weren’t always aligned. (notice that evenContinue reading “how did they even know she needed glasses?”
