No news is good news

It seems like forever since I have posted – sorry, hope all is well with our little four eyes family. Elliana’s eyes have remained straight since the last surgery and her prescription hasn’t changed again, but I am getting the sinking feeling that it will be soon. She is starting to put her face close to herContinue reading “No news is good news”

Characters with Glasses

It always amazes me with how many children are in glasses, how few characters are in glasses and how, I feel, glasses on kids are under-represented in books and magazines.  I think children in glasses are beautiful and would love to have them see that message from the media.  Thankfully, more companies are getting on board! Continue reading “Characters with Glasses”

The Muppet Movie made me cry

This weekend, we had a family vacation to Disney World.  Although I had no interest in going to Hollywood Studios, the Beauty and the Beast Musical was of interest to Elliana, so we went.  It was fabulous, but what was even better was the 3D Muppet Movie.  No, it hasn’t changed since we saw itContinue reading “The Muppet Movie made me cry”

Elly’s Princess Peepers Picks a Pet Contest Entry

After I read the contest to Elliana, she immidiately got out her water color paints and asked if I would draw her a “gigantic dragon” just like Princess Peepers has, so that she can act out the book and pretend to be Princess Peepers. How could I resist such a sweet request? So, of course,Continue reading “Elly’s Princess Peepers Picks a Pet Contest Entry”

Princess Peepers Update!

The sequel to Princess Peepers is out!  Princess Peepers Picks a Pet is just a delightful, charming, and witty as the first (I will save the details for another post)  In honor of this new book, author Pam Calvert is hosting a contest / give-away for this Grand Prize Princess Prize Pack on her blog.  ManyContinue reading “Princess Peepers Update!”

Hoppity Frog Has Two Clever Eyes Book Review

Elliana and I were asked if we would review the book Hoppity Frog Has Two Clever Eyes, by Hazel Kay, illustrations by Joseph Kay, a product of http://www.kayfunpatch.com.  It is a cute little rhyming book geared for pre-school and kindergarten age children that tells the story of when a little frog named Hoppity gets glasses and begins patching.  Hoppity can’t win at playingContinue reading “Hoppity Frog Has Two Clever Eyes Book Review”

Your Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!

I saw this craft over at Mer Mag and thought of all my patching parents. They were just too cute not to share. Wouldn’t these make ADORABLE valentines for your child’s class or even as a reward for patching. Merrilee has instructions, more pictures, and downloadable patterns for the girl and boy pirates.  http://mermag.blogspot.com/2010/02/arrrr-you-ready-for-some.html

Making Eye Appointments FUN!

We are frequent visitors of our PO office. I like to joke that we need a “Fast Pass” like they have at Disney!  As a parent, I struggle with how to not only make our eye appointments survivable, but fun. I bring my normal “bag of tricks” including books, crayons, puzzles, and other fun little things toContinue reading “Making Eye Appointments FUN!”

Playing Air Traffic Controller

This is one activity we play to help Elliana with tracking.  It is a super difficult task for her and we try to make it a game – air traffic controller!  Sometimes we make the orange sticks to help direct the planes and tell them which way to go.  We use this sheet (sorry, no ideaContinue reading “Playing Air Traffic Controller”

The eyes are looking good

The chunky funky frames are a slightly higher prescription that we are trying to see if filling her whole script will help reduce the squinting.  Her left eye is looking straighter without having the muscles moved and her right eye is still healing!  The new muscle position is also helping with her academics.  The progressContinue reading “The eyes are looking good”
