The new frames arrived today! Given that Zoe’s old frames were holding on by a bit of electric tape and a prayer, it was welcome news. I decided to take Iris’s suggestion, and the old glasses are now in Zoe’s memory box. I think it’ll be fun to look back years from now, at justContinue reading “one frame, two frame, red frame, blue frame”

not sure whether to laugh or cry
When I picked up Zoe from daycare this afternoon, the first thing I noticed was the white tape on the side of her glasses. “Glasses break, mama!” Yeah. Apparently during their free play time, one of the other toddlers took her glasses and the earpiece broke off. They taped it back on because it’s notContinue reading “not sure whether to laugh or cry”
delurk for sight!
Apparently it’s National Delurking Week in the blog world – honestly, I have no idea who comes up with these, or if it’s even real, but I’ve been looking for a good reason to ask all you readers to take a moment and leave a comment. So here’s some incentive, this week only (starting today,Continue reading “delurk for sight!”
tell me what you want!
As we head into the new year, I’m wondering what sorts of articles and posts you’d like to see on this blog (you can vote for more than one thing). Feel free to comment with other ideas or specific topics you’d like to see.
getting new frames
We took Zoe in to get new frames today. She has a new (slightly weaker) prescription and has really outgrown her current frames. The optician told us she’s grown 3 mm over the year – I assume that’s the spacing between her eyes, but I’m not sure if that’s really a large amount or not. Continue reading “getting new frames”
bifocals
Another request for help – I just got an email from a mother of a 3 year old whose ophthalmologist is recommending bifocals to correct strabismus that is persisting despite the glasses. I know that some of you have kids in bifocals, and I feel like there has been some discussion of them before butContinue reading “bifocals”
New Year’s Resolutions
Dr. Bonilla-Warford of Bright Eyes News has a great post up with a list of resolutions for children’s vision. My favorite is number 2: spend some quality vision time with your children, which includes talking to your kids about what they see. I know Zoe isn’t quite verbal enough to really express what she seesContinue reading “New Year’s Resolutions”
a new wrinkle
We’re now past the one year mark with glasses – and into the age of the terrific (or is that terrifying?) twos – and Zoe’s throwing us a new twist. She’s started refusing to take off her glasses when it suits her wishes and her mood. I first noticed it at her eye doctor appointmentContinue reading “a new wrinkle”
“no glasses purple cat”
Zoe has started pointing out whether or not characters wear glasses when we read books before bed. I’m not sure how to feel about that. I don’t want Zoe noticing every person and character that isn’t wearing glasses, but I think I may have contributed to it by pointing out whenever we read a bookContinue reading ““no glasses purple cat””
more kids in glasses on tv
So a friend sent me a screen capture from One Life to Live, the Dec. 1, 2008 episode, where one of the toddlers has glasses. It’s a grainy picture, but you can make them out. (Many thanks to Wendy for seeing this, thinking of us, and sharing a screencap). The character (for anyone who’s wondering)Continue reading “more kids in glasses on tv”
thankful
It’s Thanksgiving today here in the US. As it’s naptime right now, I thought I’d list of few things I’m thankful for: microfiber cleaning cloths warranties on frames and lenses insurance that covers eye exams (even if it doesn’t cover frames) eyeglasses stores that adjust, repair, and unbend at no cost, with a smile andContinue reading “thankful”
children and glasses and TV shows
Last month, we saw that Zoe’s favorite TV show, Yo Gabba Gabba (warning, the page is a little, um, flashy) was having an episode where one of the main characters gets glasses. I was excited to watch the show with Zoe and see how she reacted to a familiar character getting glasses. She happily pointedContinue reading “children and glasses and TV shows”
catching up
I’ve been a bit behind recently. In fact, I just got three more pictures added to the photo gallery this weekend, one of which has been waiting for over two weeks to be posted. Sorry, don’t mean to be hoarding the cute. I have a couple of posts brewing, on toys and tv shows. IfContinue reading “catching up”
follow up on the frames post
I wanted to follow up on my post about Zoe’s frames. Since people asked, I called our eyeglasses store this morning to get the brand of the frames. They’re Grant Italia frames, which from googling appears to be an Italian company that is seriously lacking in the website department, and does not sell frames online.Continue reading “follow up on the frames post”
good frames
We made it 10 1/2 months before Zoe did anything horrifying to her frames. Made it through the first couple months of her ripping them off and throwing them at the first sign of getting upset. Made it through the next few months of her taking them off when she was bored in the carContinue reading “good frames”
