Today was McKenna’s followup from getting her glasses. Dr. Glaser says that he does see a slight improvement and also says that the fact that her right eye occassionally crosses in is a good thing. That since her right eye crosses in, her left eye gets used. He does though want us to patch herContinue reading “The Patch”

getting new frames
We took Zoe in to get new frames today. She has a new (slightly weaker) prescription and has really outgrown her current frames. The optician told us she’s grown 3 mm over the year – I assume that’s the spacing between her eyes, but I’m not sure if that’s really a large amount or not. Continue reading “getting new frames”
New Year’s Resolutions
Dr. Bonilla-Warford of Bright Eyes News has a great post up with a list of resolutions for children’s vision. My favorite is number 2: spend some quality vision time with your children, which includes talking to your kids about what they see. I know Zoe isn’t quite verbal enough to really express what she seesContinue reading “New Year’s Resolutions”
Clumsy
I’m re-posting this comment from Anna who is looking for anyone with ideas or experiences with their child getting clumsy after getting their glasses. -Ann Z My 23 month old son, Frank, was diagnosed with Strabismus. Right before Thanksgiving we noticed his left eye turning in. We took him to the doctor immediately because thereContinue reading “Clumsy”
Make it!
I have found if my toddler helps me make it, she is more likely to take more ownership over it and as a result take more care in it. We have made doll beds, doll clothes, skirts and jumpers for her, a bed quilt, wall art, and even a rug for her bedroom. Here areContinue reading “Make it!”
more kids in glasses on tv
So a friend sent me a screen capture from One Life to Live, the Dec. 1, 2008 episode, where one of the toddlers has glasses. It’s a grainy picture, but you can make them out. (Many thanks to Wendy for seeing this, thinking of us, and sharing a screencap). The character (for anyone who’s wondering)Continue reading “more kids in glasses on tv”
One reason I love this season…

thankful
It’s Thanksgiving today here in the US. As it’s naptime right now, I thought I’d list of few things I’m thankful for: microfiber cleaning cloths warranties on frames and lenses insurance that covers eye exams (even if it doesn’t cover frames) eyeglasses stores that adjust, repair, and unbend at no cost, with a smile andContinue reading “thankful”
children and glasses and TV shows
Last month, we saw that Zoe’s favorite TV show, Yo Gabba Gabba (warning, the page is a little, um, flashy) was having an episode where one of the main characters gets glasses. I was excited to watch the show with Zoe and see how she reacted to a familiar character getting glasses. She happily pointedContinue reading “children and glasses and TV shows”
Finally!!
Ok- Well, we have had a horrible time getting McKenna’s first pair of glasses. From waiting 5 weeks to get them, to the clerk at Sears stashing them in a drawer; not sending them, and then quitting without so much of a note to another clerk to send them. But they finally came back withContinue reading “Finally!!”
follow up on the frames post
I wanted to follow up on my post about Zoe’s frames. Since people asked, I called our eyeglasses store this morning to get the brand of the frames. They’re Grant Italia frames, which from googling appears to be an Italian company that is seriously lacking in the website department, and does not sell frames online.Continue reading “follow up on the frames post”
good frames
We made it 10 1/2 months before Zoe did anything horrifying to her frames. Made it through the first couple months of her ripping them off and throwing them at the first sign of getting upset. Made it through the next few months of her taking them off when she was bored in the carContinue reading “good frames”
things
I’d been thinking recently about the extra little things we keep around now that Zoe has glasses that have made our lives just a bit better. Then GeorgeB left a comment on the Collected Wisdom page about the home repair shop that he’s set up: “… after many a face plant, an encounter with aContinue reading “things”
Our first Eye appointment- Eek!
I am so happy that I found this site! I need to vent. My daughter’s pediatrician first noticed a crossed eye at her 9 month check up. But, she only saw it once and thought maybe it was pseudo strabismus. Of course then I started to notice it more and more-then at her 12 monthContinue reading “Our first Eye appointment- Eek!”
