I did this a long time back, but thought it would be fun to add to the list. So, you know you have a kid in glasses when… your child owns at least one shirt with a character wearing glasses. at least one of your child’s dolls, bears, or other stuffed animals has it’s ownContinue reading “you know you have a kid in glasses…”

Making Eye Appointments FUN!
We are frequent visitors of our PO office. I like to joke that we need a “Fast Pass” like they have at Disney! As a parent, I struggle with how to not only make our eye appointments survivable, but fun. I bring my normal “bag of tricks” including books, crayons, puzzles, and other fun little things toContinue reading “Making Eye Appointments FUN!”

The older sibling with glasses
Zoe, Hazel (now 2 months old) and I are at the dinner table while Zoe finishes her cookie. “Pretty soon,” Zoe tells Hazel, “you might get glasses like me and mommy!” She says this as if getting glasses is like sledding or eating ice cream: something to look forward to as you grow up. IContinue reading “The older sibling with glasses”
Playing Air Traffic Controller
This is one activity we play to help Elliana with tracking. It is a super difficult task for her and we try to make it a game – air traffic controller! Sometimes we make the orange sticks to help direct the planes and tell them which way to go. We use this sheet (sorry, no ideaContinue reading “Playing Air Traffic Controller”
The eyes are looking good
The chunky funky frames are a slightly higher prescription that we are trying to see if filling her whole script will help reduce the squinting. Her left eye is looking straighter without having the muscles moved and her right eye is still healing! The new muscle position is also helping with her academics. The progressContinue reading “The eyes are looking good”
Fashion forward little four eyes
AmblyopiaKids had a fun post last month about some fabulous shirts she’d found that feature glasses. It seems like glasses are becoming more and more trendy – at least when they’re featured on characters on t-shirts. Then yesterday, Amber wrote a great post on her blog about her daughter, the little fashion visionary, Stella, andContinue reading “Fashion forward little four eyes”

when will I learn?
Zoe’s had glasses for over 2 1/2 years. By now, I should know that I can’t get shirts with anything but the loosest neck over Zoe’s head without taking her glasses off first. But I still forget on a regular basis (and yes, I forget to take my own off when I’m getting dressed –Continue reading “when will I learn?”
Open thread: struggles
We haven’t had an open thread in a while. Some kids use glasses as teethers, some hide or break them, some fight patching tooth and nail, and some of us struggle with the changes that glasses and vision problems can mean for our children, or with rude comments from strangers. What are the biggest strugglesContinue reading “Open thread: struggles”

marathon glasses adjustment
I should have taken Zoe in to get her glasses adjusted a long time ago. Her blue glasses have been leaving red marks on her nose for quite a while now, but she wasn’t complaining about it. Her red glasses have been looking crooked for almost as long, but again, she wasn’t really complaining. ThenContinue reading “marathon glasses adjustment”
