Surgery Update (now with even more updates)

Dec. 23rd Elly just woke up (for more than 30 seconds) in good spirits. It has been 7 hours since her surgery.  The first thing she wanted to do was see her red eyes and because of the book “Pinkalicious,” she wanted to drink something pink. If you haven’t read this book, I reccomend it before thisContinue reading “Surgery Update (now with even more updates)”

Dear Doctor of My Child’s Eyes,

Dear Doctor of My Child’s Eyes, Thank you for being so positive about my child’s vision and taking the time each visit to answer all of my questions.  I am very nervous about Elliana’s muscle surgery tomorrow, so much that it is hard to sleep and I have often found my eyes welling up withContinue reading “Dear Doctor of My Child’s Eyes,”

Patching Success Story

Yeah for patching! I am very excited to share with you that we have now had 3 visits where Elliana is measuring at 20/40 and 20/50 (with glasses of course) Our 12 hour, full time, patching has paid off. The PO said that she never imagined her vision getting to this level of vision andContinue reading “Patching Success Story”

Monday round up – October 26, 2009

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve done one of these… Pictures – Amblyopia Kids has a post about her daughter’s preschool pictures.  When her daughter got out of school that day, she said that the photographer took her glasses off for the picture.  Do you have pictures taken of your child with orContinue reading “Monday round up – October 26, 2009”

Reader question: Pediatric Ophthalmologist recommendation in New York State

This question just came in from Queenie.  I’ve tossed around the idea of starting a page where people could list references to ophthalmologists, optometrists, optical shops and others that they recommend, but I’m not sure if that’s opening a can of worms or not.  -Ann Z Our eight-months old child has just been diagnosed withContinue reading “Reader question: Pediatric Ophthalmologist recommendation in New York State”

Reader question: Conjunctival cyst

This question came in from Theresa, whose son had strabismus surgery earlier this month.  -Ann Z Well, Nicholas had his surgery on August 5th and has been doing quite well, however, what we thought was just a stitch is not. I found out today that it is a conjunctival cyst. I am very upset aboutContinue reading “Reader question: Conjunctival cyst”

Getting eye pressure checks with a three year old without anesthesia

I just read a fantastic post over at Christopher’s Eyes that I wanted to pass along. Christopher is three, and has congenital glaucoma, which means many, many appointments to check his eye pressure.  For young kids, this means an exam under anesthesia (EUA), which is a huge production requiring a trip to a hospital andContinue reading “Getting eye pressure checks with a three year old without anesthesia”

More poetry: My Surgery

This came in from Anne at Is this a boarding house or something? Her son Alex had eye surgery when he was 7 1/2 for strabismus and amblyopia. This is the poem that he wrote a month after the surgery. All of the original spelling has been preserved.  I really love the cadence and rhythmContinue reading “More poetry: My Surgery”

update on Braden – before and after surgery pictures

Linda wrote to me to ask that I share some new pictures of Braden.  As she said, when she was researching Braden’s strabismus surgery, she scoured the web for pre and post surgery pictures.  (She wrote in August about their journey to finding the right eye doctor for Braden).

Post-Op Update on Teagan

I am long overdue to update everyone on Teagan’s post-op strabismus surgery follow-up.  I am happy to report that Teagan is out of her bi-focals!  The glasses are still needed but we know nothing would change there.  Her crossing is now very minor and within normal range.  We will need to keep following up onContinue reading “Post-Op Update on Teagan”

cross-generational eye surgery

Right around the time that we learned that Zoe would need strabismus surgery, my grandma learned that she had put off cataract surgery for as long as was possible, and, as the ophthalmologist put it, her choice was to schedule the surgery now, or by her next eye exam, it would be too late.  TheContinue reading “cross-generational eye surgery”

Our Pediatric Ophthalmologist

Although my husband disliked the doctor he is actually very acheived in his field. He is a Pediatric Ophthalmologist and specialized in children with developmental disorders. Our daughter has a Hypoplastic Cerebellum-detected while I was pregnant; this causes problems with balance and coordination. While researching about Esotropia- I found information that said that many childrenContinue reading “Our Pediatric Ophthalmologist”
